Poulin announces run for City Council

Eric Poulin has announced his intention to run for City Council. Eric, a former mayoral aide for Ed Lambert, ran a close campaign in 2007, missing losing in the primary by just a few hundred votes.

I thought Eric had a very strong platform in 2007, one that offered good ideas and specifics in achieving them. I look forward to seeing what he brings to this years city council race. - Lefty

His press release follows:

Today, former mayoral aide/mayoral candidate Eric M. Poulin has “pulled” nomination papers for the office of City Council. Mr. Poulin said, “I plan on having an official campaign kickoff regarding my candidacy on Friday, May 29, 2009.” (Time and place to be announced at a later date.)

Poulin added, “I have a strong desire to serve the citizens of Fall River. I was involved in the community before I ran for Mayor, while I was running for Mayor, and have stayed active since the election of 2007 because I love Fall River, the place that I call home and the place that I hope to someday raise a family. There is so much potential here in our city and I want to help us finally realize it, but that won’t happen unless we stop doing the same things over and over again; we have to move away from the failures of the past and I believe that I can offer a fresh perspective on how to do that. I still feel that when I ran for office in 2007 that I was the candidate that offered the most substance in terms of having a platform that told people where I stood on the issues, what I felt Fall River’s problems were, and what my solutions were to fixing them. I will definitely bring that approach back to the table when I run for office again this year. I will bring back elements of my 2007 platform as well as to introduce some new ideas. I am not going to ask people to vote for me based on name recognition or yard signs or fancy slogans, I plan on offering them substance.”

Citizens, residents, voters and taxpayers of Fall River may volunteer or may submit their feedback to the Poulin Election Committee by sending an e-mail to: hopeforfallriver@yahoo.com or by calling 508-558-8463.

Eric M. Poulin is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth where he majored in Political Science. He has been active in the community on many issues including fighting against the proposed Weaver’s Cove/Hess LNG project and advocating for public safety, including joining with 9,000 residents last year in an effort to have their voices heard regarding the issue of whether or not to make the Fire Chief a political appointment. Poulin also worked in Fall River’s Executive Branch of government for 6 years, from 2001-2007.

This is a legitimate question, I am in no way attempting to be a smartass.

Where has Poulin been since the last election? How active has he been in the community? What has he been involved or not been involved with, since the election?

I am asking because I truly don't know. I was interested in some of the things he had to say during his run for mayor. I am interested in candidates that stay active even when they aren't actually in the process of running for office.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Of all the 2007 mayoral candidates Kilby, Whitty, Alves and Poulin and I'm not counting Bob Correia because he became mayor or Dave Sullivan because he is a state rep it is very fair to say that Poulin has been the most active. He has written a number of letters to the editor on issues facing the city since 2007 and has been seen at numerous meetings throughout the community since 2007. He was involved with trying to give the people a voice when it came to the issue of whether or not to make the Fire Chief a political appointment and with the naming of schools. These are just a few things that I am aware of and I hope that this answers your question. Brad Kilby is also going to run for City Council and your question would be better suited to him than to Mr. Poulin who has been very active.

I would love to have Eric run for Mayor. I hope that he and a few others can break into the status quo and blow it apart - let's see some actual work! The city will only benefit from anything Eric does. He has my support.
